Dear Jane and Other Things

Hi there, After a lot of thought ( about 5 minutes ) I decided to do a Dear Jane quilt or at least have a go! At a pace of one block a week. I’ve had a look at different ways of putting them together and it’s definitely an heirloom quilt…well for me anyhow. Block one is done ..phew only 168 to go..mmm.

I thought I’d show you these sweet pencil cases/crochet hook holders from the book below. I really enjoyed making them as they only took a short while.

Wall Hanging

Hi, I’m having the most boring day doing GST and every now and then i look at the old photo’s on the computer to give me a break. I thought i would put a picture of the table topper i made …or a wall hanging maybe on the blog. It was from a book Scandinavian Stitches and finished at 40′ x42′. I made it smaller and gave it to my son. A rhyme for children past on from generation to generation and good fun to make with Brandon Mabley’s  fish fabric.

Thought I’d put a picture of the back. Echino…so lovely all by itself.

Doodling

Hi, Can you believe we are half way through October already. I’m sure i hibernated and didn’t realize! I have been doing lots of sewing though but nothing’s finished …well doodling really. Using up scraps of reproduction fabrics, wool and K Fassett whilst watching old westerns on TV. Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood…have you seen it?

Another Sewing Keeper

Hi there, It’s pouring with rain outside so it’s a day of sewing inside. Made another sewing keep…. everyone loves them i think…all the different shapes and sizes. Small ones that hold just needles, a cotton reel and embroidery scissors to ones with pockets and zips. The choice is never ending. The great thing about sewing and patchwork…a thousand  patch-workers a thousand styles…

Until next time, Linda 🙂

Woolly Things

Hello there, Just dashed outside before it went dark to take some pictures. There’s not much twilight down this neck of the woods, it gets dark fast so they are a bit dark. Oh well…this will be a pattern for a wall hanging and sewing keeper. There’s a third piece to go with it which is a cushion and is done with red stitching.
Finally the wind has stopped howling in Auckland….i think it lasted for 4+ days non stop. A good time to stay inside and sew.
Until next time, Linda 🙂

Hexagons

Hi there,
I’ve lost track of time lately working, sewing and all the rest. For a while now I’ve been wanting to do some hexagons using templates.
They are Meredith Clarke templates and Mathilda’s Own. I’m making a quilt and didn’t work out the maths first. Finally after looking at it for 2 months “wondering” i woke up one morning with these templates on my mind and lo and behold they are a perfect fit to go around the center. What a relief !

I pulled out a couple of shopping bags (small ones) full of things i haven’t finished. This happens from time to time and they get put right back or chucked out. Found this little square of embroidery that i was practicing bullion knots on and thought i would finish it……….soon.

15 Minute Purses

Hi, Does anyone fully understand google+ in circles? I click on buttons to find out what they are and delete things and the whole thing is frustrating…..that’s the trouble as you get older…it’s like learning to drive when you are 50+..I need lessons..plenty of them.Step by step learning. I think i should just sit and sew instead anything new about sewing and the brain just lights up . I have been making purses. Made about 12 so far for my future daughter in-law. They should be called 15 minute purses….just two 8.5 x 10.5″ pieces of fabric. One for the purse and one lining and batting the same size.

For a rounded edge mark 2″ both sides from the corner. Line up a plate against the pen marks and draw round the plate. Put the two pieces of fabric right sides together and place on top of the batting. Sew around with the usual 1/4″ seam leaving a gap near the bottom to turn inside out. Trim the corners. The gap will be top stitched so no need to hand sew closed.Turn out and press.

Turn the bottom up 3 1/2″. Top stitch all around the purse.

Sew a poppa on the inside and a button or bead on the outside of the purse on top of where the poppa is sewn. I know everyone knows how to do this but for a quick present with a soap..tissues or whatever they’re not bad.
Until next time, Linda

Happy New Year

Hi, A busy start to the new year working on a wedding quilt for my son Chris and Amy. I can’t show any pictures in case they see it. I have been sneaking half an hour here and there to do some red work stitching….Haven’t decided how to put it all together yet. There’s 12 stitchery blocks maybe with log cabins. Also made a dress from Phillip Jacobs fabric with a lot of help from Cheryl so all in all not bad as it’s only 13th. And there i was saying i was going to finish all my UFO’s…not a chance!! Maybe next year.
