Bird Walk Cushion

Hi,

I enjoyed making this cushion but had forgotten about it until it arrived back in the post. Homespun always take photographs in lovely settings. The photos were taken at a place called The Whalers Cottage, Hyams Beach NSW. A lovely place to sit and sew!

I did a smaller version on a linen background.

There are lots of lovely projects in this issue of Australian Homespun. I love this pattern Japanese Ice Cream by Chris Jurd.  A lovely scrappy quilt.

Until next time,

Linda 🙂

Sewing Project

Hi,

Merry Christmas to everyone who reads this blog and to everyone else as well! I’ve started a new block of the month for next year, for All Things Patchwork. It has all sorts of techniques in it so it’s fun to do. A couple of sneak peaks.

Bags

Hi,
Happy Easter weekend. Lovely and sunny here in New Zealand. A good day for sewing…I think it should be gardening ! I’ve had a go at making some small bags. I did one from some French fabric which is lovely but i love the brighter colours.
It’s a strange thing that i usually can talk the hind legs off a donkey yet i get on here and my blog posts read like the books from early learning Dick and Jane ! Oh well i hope you like the pictures !!

Big Cushion

Hi,
Finally finished the cushion i was making. It’s REALLY big. I made it without thinking what the finished size would be which ended up about 24″ by 15″. Usually i would make a cushion insert from calico and fill it with feathers but i found in Bed Bath & Beyond a pillow insert with a gusset. It fitted exactly so i was chuffed with that find.

There’s a little brass door knocker as promised to Grehta on the middle house!
Next up will be a companion cushion  in different colours. Smaller…definitely smaller and different but with houses on a grey background…

Quilting

Hi,
Slowly crossing off the new years list ! Can you believe one month already has gone since Christmas.
Well i have been busy hand quilting…..love it. It’s definitely a favorite of mine…..I don’t do posh quilting with 10 stitches to the inch..just get it all together and enjoy doing it. There’s something relaxing about quilting even if you stab yourself a few times in the process. Guilty of taking that thimble off a lot! Hope to put the finished article on soon of my finished cushion. It’s quite large and lots of fun to do with some wool and stitching.

Partridge in a Pear Tree

Hi, It’s a bit strange to finish a Christmas project half way through January. We have Christmas in July in New Zealand so i suppose it’s a good time to start ! I haven’t met anyone yet who actually does Christmas twice though.  I love Christmas in the summer in NZ so much nicer than being cold.

I’ve posted a few pictures of the finished wool wall hanging. It was good fun to make except it had to be finished and i sat for many hours straight quilting it. Ended up talking to myself in the end..words of encouragement….come on one more stitch ! Things quilters do!

Cushion & Knitting

Hi There, Ever get the feeling of having too much to do? Well I’m ignoring all the sewing for a few days and decided to knit fingerless gloves….for my mum. Something small to do quickly…well i say quickly but last night i had almost finished the second glove and i dropped a stitch …right down the bottom…i did exactly the same on the first one as well !
Although i managed to put the cushion together for our colour Quarterly group that’s held 4 times a year. This time we have been given the green fabric. Some of the things the ladies make are wonderful. I’ll have to get some photos to put up for next time…

Christmas

Hi There, I made a wall hanging a while ago with a little creature I liked the shape of. It was called mythological because it could have been a few things. Well now it’s turned into a Reindeer for Christmas! A short legged one. A note book cover. How hard it is trying to come up with something for boys……there’s a million things for girls but when it comes to boys you’re racking your brain for forever. If there’s a page out there with ideas on i would love to see it!

Wall Hanging

Hi, I’m having the most boring day doing GST and every now and then i look at the old photo’s on the computer to give me a break. I thought i would put a picture of the table topper i made …or a wall hanging maybe on the blog. It was from a book Scandinavian Stitches and finished at 40′ x42′. I made it smaller and gave it to my son. A rhyme for children past on from generation to generation and good fun to make with Brandon Mabley’s  fish fabric.

Thought I’d put a picture of the back. Echino…so lovely all by itself.

Doodling

Hi, Can you believe we are half way through October already. I’m sure i hibernated and didn’t realize! I have been doing lots of sewing though but nothing’s finished …well doodling really. Using up scraps of reproduction fabrics, wool and K Fassett whilst watching old westerns on TV. Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood…have you seen it?
