Bags

Hi,
Happy Easter weekend. Lovely and sunny here in New Zealand. A good day for sewing…I think it should be gardening ! I’ve had a go at making some small bags. I did one from some French fabric which is lovely but i love the brighter colours.
It’s a strange thing that i usually can talk the hind legs off a donkey yet i get on here and my blog posts read like the books from early learning Dick and Jane ! Oh well i hope you like the pictures !!

Tula Pink Sampler Blocks

Hi,
Started something new this evening…yet another thing! I’ve been collecting these fabrics for a while for this quilt. Fabrics with creatures on. This book by Tula Pink is fantastic and the blocks go together nice and easy. My list of things to do is still under 7 so that’s OK 🙂

Machine Quilting

Hi,

Finally had a go at machine quilting. Only straight lines with a walking foot but really enjoyed it. Some lines are really wonky but that’s alright. The nicest thing about it all was that the whole thing didn’t take long. Well unless you count being up till 1am not long! I haven’t shown all of it as it’s a wedding anniversary gift.

A Few More Dear Jane

Hi, A few more Dear Jane blocks for tomorrow’s get together. Hardly any sewing this month just decorating so not much to show….except had a go at making a small quilt for a first wedding anniversary with letters which was fun to do. I’m always amazed at how quickly modern quilts come together and loving that!

I found this lovely book in the library full of letters to make. I would like to have this one on my book shelf. It has a lot of interesting ideas.

Dear Jane

Hi, Last time i blogged i managed to press the cancel button! Having a go at Dear Jane quilt along with another lady and we worked out if we did the 168 blocks for the centre at a rate of 3.5 a week it will take a year. Well i suppose that’s not too bad. We are doing all the easy ones first..They look at bit wonky in this photo as it’s a strange angle :)!

Big Cushion

Hi,
Finally finished the cushion i was making. It’s REALLY big. I made it without thinking what the finished size would be which ended up about 24″ by 15″. Usually i would make a cushion insert from calico and fill it with feathers but i found in Bed Bath & Beyond a pillow insert with a gusset. It fitted exactly so i was chuffed with that find.

There’s a little brass door knocker as promised to Grehta on the middle house!
Next up will be a companion cushion  in different colours. Smaller…definitely smaller and different but with houses on a grey background…

Quilting

Hi,
Slowly crossing off the new years list ! Can you believe one month already has gone since Christmas.
Well i have been busy hand quilting…..love it. It’s definitely a favorite of mine…..I don’t do posh quilting with 10 stitches to the inch..just get it all together and enjoy doing it. There’s something relaxing about quilting even if you stab yourself a few times in the process. Guilty of taking that thimble off a lot! Hope to put the finished article on soon of my finished cushion. It’s quite large and lots of fun to do with some wool and stitching.

Partridge in a Pear Tree

Hi, It’s a bit strange to finish a Christmas project half way through January. We have Christmas in July in New Zealand so i suppose it’s a good time to start ! I haven’t met anyone yet who actually does Christmas twice though.  I love Christmas in the summer in NZ so much nicer than being cold.

I’ve posted a few pictures of the finished wool wall hanging. It was good fun to make except it had to be finished and i sat for many hours straight quilting it. Ended up talking to myself in the end..words of encouragement….come on one more stitch ! Things quilters do!

Happy New Year

Hi, A happy New Year to anyone who reads my blog…and to everyone else on the planet.
Feeling quite excited about this year as a New Year Resolution has been made to finish what i started. And there’s a lot of “started” bit’s and pieces. I expect all quilters are saying the same!

These pictures are blocks from Dear Jane…but i am going through the book and picking all the blocks i can applique instead of piecing…..apart from one or two which i can’t resist. It’s going to be “Easy Jane” so I’m told!

Also working with wool on a remake of an old project from 2010 but this time in brighter wool fabrics. Can put a picture up when it’s finished. Love to sew on wool as the stitches just sink right in and disappear!

Just been outside taking photos and looking at my messy garden…except for this Banana Passion fruit. It was grown from seed by my son Chris. Seven years it was a tiny twig in a pot but i couldn’t throw it out because Chris grew it.  I gave it a telling off and put it in a bigger pot and it grew…………..

..a bit more until finally it was put in the ground and eleven years later it’s got quite a lot of fruit. They taste lovely. I can’t understand why they are considered a pest in New Zealand. Maybe in the wild they get out of control but this baby has stayed fairly small…..and the flowers are beautiful.

Well last but not least i have this lovely pile of wool…a Christmas present to make something lovely with……

Have a great new year making and sewing new….and old projects,
Until next time,
Linda
